The Rotary International Convention is in session now in Seoul, Korea. Our president-elect, Craig Brown, is there and will be returning in a week to report to us about what he learned at the convention. The breakout sessions present up to date information about membership ideas and other important subjects. Rotary international has announced that data integration for clubs and districts has been upgraded so that when changes are made to a club's roster, those changes will be make immediately on the RI member database. As a result of this change, RI has renewed efforts to encourage clubs to adopt a club management system such as ClubRunner in order to take advantage of this update. Our club has had data integration since Nov 2010 when ClubRunner announced that this feature was available.
ClubRunner Updates
ClubRunner has a booth at the RI Convention. New features and updates will be featured at the convention. In addition to updates that have occurred during the year, there will be a new interface for the news bulletin, for example. I will be able to announce all of the updates once details are published in the next several weeks. One feature that is already available is the ability to put rotating images on the website. Instead of having to use a third party app to do this, rotating photos are now a built in feature of ClubRunner.
Rancho BEERnardo
RB Sunrise Past President, Jim Stewart has created this logo for our Rancho BEERnardo Fundraising event that will be held at Webb Park on October 22. The Webb Park venue should make for greater visibility for this event and allow the attendance to set new records. Plan now to have this date clear so you can participate. Our club will need a lot of volunteers for various jobs in this event so that we can be successful. Family and adult friends are welcome to volunteer to help. We want to build this into an annual community event. Other clubs in our district have done this with their fundraising event and over the years their events have grown to be very popular and also raise very large amounts of money for those clubs.
Pres. Alison presenting a speaker gift book to be donated to Abraxas High School by Carolyn Ortiz
Carolyn Ortiz, Energy Solutions Advisor from San Diego Gas & Electric (“SDGE”), visited RB Sunrise Rotary on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. She spoke about upcoming rate changes and customer solutions to make their homes more energy efficient and save money.
Carolyn explained that for 14 years, there were four rate tiers, depending on usage, with tiers 1 and 2, at the lowest. These lower rate tiers were not paying their fair share of associated costs for energy transmisson. Tiers 3 and 4, on the other hand, were not only paying the highest rates but also subsidizing the lower two rates.
In September 2015, there was the current three-tier structure introduced, with a two-tiered system scheduled to begin April 2016. However, it has been put on hold until approximately the end of the year. When it goes into effect, tier 1, the lower paying customers, will see an increase of approximately $1-$7 in their monthly bills, and customers in tier 2 should see an approximate $5-$7 decrease in their monthly bills.
Carolyn spoke about different solutions all customers could do to lower their bills, including SDGE energy-saving assistance programs, technology solutions in purchasing energy-efficient appliances and thermostats, and other online solutions. SDG&E also has available for a short time free, thermostats that can be programmed by using a tablet or smartphone.
