Holiday Party Has Been Postponed!
Because so many members were unable to attend the holiday party scheduled for December 5, the party has been cancelled. It will be rescheduled for a time in early January. The good news is that you can recycle gifts you receive for the silent and live gift auction.
Valley Elementary School GIft Fair
On Saturday, December 13, RB Sunrise Rotary will be providing gifts and breakfast for children from low income families, many who are Hispanic. These children would not have an opportunity to give a gift if they this event didn't exist. A few members of our sister Rotary club in Mexico, Club Rotarion Tijuana Millenio Minarette will be assisting us.
Plan to be a part of this event. There will be a signup sheet at our next meeting so that you can choose one of two time periods. Everyone who has helped in the past has been enjoyed seeing the children and helping in this event.
Foundation Seminar
On Saturday, Nov. 22, our District held its Rotary Foundation Seminar. The purpose of the seminar was to showcase the many ways that Rotary Clubs are working together to fund projects that are changing lives around the world. From clean water to helping babies survive, Rotarians are making a difference. An example of how a single Rotarian can come up with an idea that becomes a project is the hearing aid project that grew out of a Rotarian's visit to his native country, Turkey. He found that there were children who had difficulty in school beause of hearing loss. He propsed a project to provide hearing aids and staff to fit the hearing aids which his club adoptted. With help from other clubs, a matching grand from our district and the matching funds from the Rotary Foundation, there are young people who now are hearing sounds for the first time in their lives. This make it possible for them to do tasks which require hearing. The hearing aids were provided through the manufacturer significantly below the normal cost. This is a life changing program that began with a need that one Rotarian saw and decided to use the Rotary Foundation model via his club to make a difference.
This is just one example of the many projects that were demonstrated at the seminar.

Last month, there was a meeting of the Zone Institute in Vancouver, BC, Canada. In the structure of governance in Rotary, Districts are organized into zones. The picture at left is Mary Jane and Carl Kruse as "Zone Mounties". A fund picture of our own PDG and spouse.
