Speaker for August 18 is Rachel Barker from Ronald McDonald House.  Ronald McDonald House has benefited in the past from our clubs work projects at their facility as one of our activities for Rotarians At Work. Those members who haven't ever visited Ronald McDonald House, Rachel will give an overview about why Ronald McDonald House is an important resource for parents whose children are under treatment at Rady Childrens Hospital.

Stories
Program on Tuesday, August 11, 2015

At last week's meeting, Valerie Brown from 4 Community Solutions talked to us about Emergency Preparedness.  Preparedness is something that most of us don't think much about because here in Rancho Bernardo, we feel relatively save. However, we all experienced the need to evacuate quickly when the Witch Creek Fire roared through Rancho Bernardo in October 2007.  We had to quickly leave our homes and go to a shelter and ultimately find a temporary place to live.  We had to quickly pick up necessary items such as clothes, medications and computers and irreplaceable memorabilia.  Four of our members lost home as did hundreds in Rancho Bernardo.

Valerie spoke about how to minimize fire danger around your home. She also told us about the plan she has in her own household to have necessary items already collected so that she just has to grab those items from their easily accessible locations and leave with her family.

We don't think about the possibility of not having water or electricity.  She notes that we should keep an emergency supply of water and emergency supply of battery operated things such as flashlights.

I recently experienced a minor annoyance when the refrigerator's compressor died.  We take a refrigerator for granted until it dies and we have to scramble to save in some manner the food that we have in it.  Irene and I learned quickly how important our refrigerator really was in the normal part of our lives.

Have You Written Your Biography?

A feature of your profile page is an opportunity to write a short public biography, a vocational biography, and an expanded biography that only club member can see.  The public bio is one that can be seen by Rotarians in our district. The vocational biography is intended for a future upgrade to ClubRunner that will have a business directory.  (An original focus of Rotary was business networking - using the services of other Rotarians who share your same ethical standards.)

To write your biographies, you need to logon to our website www.rbsunrise.org
At the upper right corner of the home page you will see the words - Member Login.  Click on those words to bring up the logon screen. Enter your logon and password. (If you don't remember your logon/ or password, click on the link shown to retrieve your logon and/or reset your password. The information will be sent to the same email address account that you are using to get this newsletter.)

Once you are logged on, you will be returned to the home page.  Now you will see at the top right of the page the words - Member Area.  Click on that link to navigate to the Admin page.  Once you are on the Admin page, go to the left side of the page to My ClubRunner. The first link you see is Edit My Profile.  Click on that link.

The contact information page of your profile will be what comes up first.  Check the information that is entered there.  If you need to make corrections or change information, click on the Edit button.  After you complete the changes, scroll to the bottom of the page to Save your changes.

You will see tabs on the top of the page that say: Personal, Rotary, Biography, Commitments, Seetings and Privacy. Click on the Rotary tab to see your Rotary information.  Add information such as your sponsor.  Again you have to click on the Edit link to make changes.  Scroll to the bottom of the page to Save your changes.

Click on the Biography tab to add the various biographical information in each of the three biographies.  The biographies need to be concise because each of the sections has a character limit.  If you exceed the character limit you will be notified by the system that you have exceeded the limit.  One you have edited your input to be within the limit, move to the next section. Once all three are complete, be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page to Save your input.

You can now view the entries on the other tabs or you can exit to navigate to the Admin page or the Home page by using either the Go Back button on the bottom of the page or the links at the very top of the page.

SunRiser  Publication Alert

Because I will be out of town from Aug 19 to Aug 26 and again from Sep 2 to Sep 23, this newsletter will not be published during those two time frames.  Martin Sheps has volunteered to keep you informed during my absence, but he will not be sending this newsletter. Look instead for emails he will be sending with his wit to keep you enlightened about club activities.
