Stories
RB Sunrise Welcomes a new member

At the meeting on  March 12, 2019, RB Sunrise Rotary inducted a new member, Gerrick Jan Frederik van Glabbeek.  Mr. van Glabbeek, who prefers to be called Jan, is a naturalized US citizen, who originally from the Netherlands.  He was a key executive in several large corporations during his career in business. He and his wife, Thea, moved to San Diego at the first of the year in order to be closer to two of their children and their families. We have already witnessed Jan's humor and look forward to having him as an active member of the club.

In the photo above, Jan is in the center. Bret Geernaert led the induction and Mary Stanton and Jesse Garza assisted.  Jim Dunny is Jan's sponsor and mentor.  Jan's family is to Jim's right.

Rotary Training Resources
Rotary has Basic Training Videos available on the Rotary International website under Rotary Learning Center. Two of them are significant.  One is Rotary Basics and the other is Rotary Foundation Basics.  If you have not already set up your access to the Rotary International website, you will need to do so.  To set up access to the Member Dashboard, click on My Rotary at the top of the Home Page.  When the Rotary Member Dashboard appears, click on the Register For An Account button on the right side. Once you set up your access you will have access to various member pages under My Rotary.  Be sure to record your logon and password for later use.

To get to the Learning Center, click on the Learning and Resources tab at the top of the My Rotary page.  The Learning Center links are located by scrolling down the right column of the page.  Click on the visit the center link.  (You may have to sign in again.)  Once the Learning Center page appears, click in the box next to Rotary Courses - English.  This will bring up a list of 32 courses.  Scroll down the until you find one you want.

The purpose of this correspondence is to announce an upcoming trip to Mombasa, Kenya, East Africa in May 2019 to participate in the 2nd Annual East Africa Rotary Projects Fair, and engage in a hands-on work project.  Go here for information about this trip.  Please feel free to share this information with the Rotarians in your club as soon as possible as we have a limited amount of space and expect this trip to be filled in the next week or two.
Trip Dates:                           April 30 – May 6, 2019
Travel to:                              Mombasa, Kenya, East Africa
Per Person Price:                $1,619, double occupancy

Program includes:  Hotel accommodations, transfers, most meals, hands-on community service field work, East Africa Projects Fair registration, special Rotary and fellowship events, sightseeing, etc.

In May 2019, North American Rotarians will travel to Mombasa, Kenya for a life changing experience.   Have you spoken about or heard a Rotarian speak about their personal experience participating a work on a humanitarian grant?  These trips have a profound effect upon the individual.  For those of you who have gone on one of these trips you know, and for those of you who have yet to enjoy this experience, you should.

The East Africa Project Fair is endorsed by Rotary’s Reach Out to Africa Committee (ROTA), who is trying to generate greater connectivity between the African and North American Rotarians to generate greater support of the projects of Africa.  This committee needs your help, leadership and motivational skills, to generate awareness, interest and action to support these projects.  Further, projects fairs are an expanding program, encourage by Rotary and The Rotary Foundation as an extraordinary opportunity for clubs to find viable, qualified humanitarian projects.

Recently, the trustees of the Rotary Foundation announced that District Grant funds could be used for travel to a Project Fair.
The hope is that you can participate. However, even if you are unable to join us this year, please feel free to announce this program in your club and District over the next month, get it on websites, and get it in newsletters.  Encourage your members to participate – help Rotary Be the Inspiration.

Let us know if you have any questions.   We hope to hear from you soon.
