District Training Assembly
On Saturday morning, March 19, 9 members of our club traveled to the Joan Kroc Center for Peace and Justice located on the campus of the University of San Diego. RB Sunrise was represented in the break out sessions by Paul Gorman, who presented his program that helps other clubs in our district the assistence they need to use their district designated funds to be able to do various project. I personally spoke with several Rotarians who were excited to learn about the mechanism that Paul has developed for doing the great work Rotarians want to do.
Each of the members who attended the Training Assembly attended the various breakout sessions. One of the sessions was about the use of social media. There we learned about new ways to utilize social media for getting information out to the community. A highlight of the presentation was the fact that so many people are on FaceBook, for example, that this way of reaching people has become very important. One of the tips was that each of our members need to be "editors" of our RB Sunrise FaceBook page.
The training assembly is always run by the District Governor Elect. In this case, it was Marilyn Sanderson who will be our District Governor for 2016-2017. She will be eager to work with clubs to get Rotary's story to the general public more effectively.
Membership
Our club is continuing to grow. At the board meeting last Thursday, the application of Kim Varey was approved and her name will be announced at the next meeting. Kim will be an important addition to our club because she can help us sponsor an Interact Club to replace the club we no longer can sponsor at Scripps Ranch High School. She is already working with students at Poway High School, so those students can become the nucleus of an Interact club
Rotarians at Work
Remember to keep Saturday morning, April 30, clear in your calendar so you can participate in one of the two projects RB Sunrise will do that day. We will be working at PoVA to contruct a shade structure and do other cleanup. We also will be doing work at Ronald McDonald House. Both of these projects involve organizations that RB Sunrise has helped in the past. Both are eager to have us help them again.
Mexico Project Mercy Housebuild
The rescheduled house build is not set for April 16. Look for more information and a signup sheet at a meeting in the future. Remember that in order to return from Mexico across the border, you need a passport.
