The assignment for the Who Am I includes providing the positive thought at the beginning of the meeting and introducing guests and visiting Rotarians during the meeting.
Congratulations to Scripps Ranch High School senior Karly Hampshire for earning the top honor at the Four-Way Test Speech Contest finals held at the April 29th District Council at the California Center for the Arts Escondido.
Sponsored by the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club Karly's speech on applying the Four-Way Test to non-violent settlement of conflicts earned the judge's nod for content, organization and presentation. The three judges took an extraordinary amount of time to compare and finalize individual vote results as there were six very talented and poised contestants who dazzled the audience of over 170 attendees during the evening.
Speech subjects covered how the Four-Way Test applies to the use of social media, the morality of doing what is right, the non-violent settlement of conflicts, today's broadcast media, hurtful discrimination, and student engagement in school and community activities. This program is one of the district's highlights of our Youth Service activities.

Members of the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary club spent Saturday, April
26, 2014 performing maintenance, repair and clean-up work for Ronald McDonald House
of San Diego. The club members selected this project as their contribution
to Rotarians At Work Day.
The Ronald McDonald House provides a welcoming “home away from home”
for families caring for critically ill or injured children at local hospitals. Featuring
47 guest suites, three daily meals, an onsite school for siblings of hospitalized
children, day resting rooms for visitors, a serenity garden, and a wide range of
other appropriate services, the facility is meant to ease the medical experience
for children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions.
By taking care of the basic necessities of life – a place to stay,meals, computer access, and more – Ronald McDonald House makes it possible for families to focus their attention on the critically ill or injured child who needs them so urgently,” says club president Jim Stewart in explaining the choice for Rotarians at Work Day. He adds; “Even though the organization isn’t in our zip code, the importance it plays to all San Diegans and our commitment to service above self makes helping them a priority for our Rotary family.”
Rotarians At Work started in San Diego and is quickly gaining traction around the world with the objective of having all 34,000 Rotary clubs on the map working on community improvement projects simultaneously.
Rotarians At Work program was conceived by a former District Governor, the late Bob Watson, and is guided by District 5340 2006 Rotarian Of The Year Jim Roth. Roth is a member and former president of the RB Sunrise Rotary
Non-Rotarians are also invited to donate time or resources, as well as to visit the house for a tour. More information is available online at www.rmhcsd.org

At the regular club meeting on April 22, 2014 four new Paul Harris Fellows were
recognized. With the addition of these four members, RB Sunrise Rotary Club
achieved a milestone. A Paul Harris Fellowship Award is a recognition given
to a member when the member donates or has donated in their name a total of $1000
to the Rotary Foundation. Because new members are often added during the year, goal
of 100 percent membership participation at this award level is difficult to achieve.
Congratulations to Rotary Foundation Chair, Jeanne MacLaren, for her hard work in
getting our membership motivated and working to verify that RB Sunrise Rotary could
achieve this goal.
District Council "Governor's Dinner" is on June 24, 2014 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Mission Valley. It will mark the end of Carl's year as District Governor. At this meeting, Carl will be honored for his service this year. In turn, Carl will be recognizing club achievements for this year.
RB Sunrise Rotary Club needs to have a large number of members and their spouses at this event to help Carl celebrate the success of his year as District Governor. It is at this dinner that our club will surrender the banner we have had as the home club of the district governor.
