Speaker Committee Formed
Andy Patapow has retired in his position as Speaker Chair after 17 years of service. To fill this void a speaker committee has been formed.
Kim Muslusky, along with Bill Chaffin, Jean LooRusso and Judith Tronsrue comprise our new speakers committee. Kim will be keeping the active list of speakers.
If you have someone who has requested to speak to the club, please contact Kim for open dates. Additionally, if you happen to visit another Rotary club in our district and hear a great speaker, please relay the contact informaton for that speaker to Kim. In reality, each of us can be members of the speakers committee.
Family of Rotary
One of the values of membership in our Rotary club is the fact that as we get to know each other, we become extended family to each other. Last Saturday, April 9, Jeanne MacLaren and her family held a celebration of life for Jeanne's husband Tom who passed a few weeks ago. The Oaks North Community Center was filled with Tom's friends and family to remember the life of Jeanne's husband. Included in those present were members of Jeanne's Rotary family - friends members of RB Sunrise Rotary. We were fascinated to learn what Tom and Jeanne had done in the past. Although Jeanne and Tom have been in RB only a short time, there were a lot of friends they have developed in a short time.
We know Jeanne because she joined RB Sunrise Rotary several years ago and quickly became everyone's friend. She has worked diligently on Rotary Foundation funding in our club and has also worked in various jobs for our Rotary district. As we have done in the past, we are there for the members of our Rotary family in the important times in their lives.
Casey Smith's Donation Page
At our meeting on April 4, Steve Smith's son, Casey, presented his idea, Food for Families, Africa (FFFA). Steve reported Casey's reaction to speaking to us this way:
Membership News
Membership co-chair Mary Stanton reports that we currently have 58 active members and 6 honorary members. That alone is great news. Even better is the fact that we also have applications for membership from 3 other recent visitors to our club. You will be hearing more about these new members in the future. Mike Moffat is struggling to rearrange our member assignments so that these new members can introduct themselves by doing their Who Am I presentation and also present a Rotary Minute. This is a great problem to have!
Fireside Chat
Steve Sayler writes:My wife (Karen) and I are hosting a “fireside chat” on Tuesday night, April 19, from 6 to 8 pm for new members. Old members are always welcome, as this is a chance to meet our new members and spend some time getting to know them. Avenue of Service and Committee Chairs, please attend if possible! Please bring your spouse! For entry, old members (including young members), should bring an appetizer and BYOB. New members just need to show up, and bring a spouse or significant other if you can.
We will spend some time reviewing Rotary, how it works on a District and International level, but specifically how to get involved in our club!
The address and phone number are: 12040 Avenida Sivrita (451-9030). Directions: From I-15, go east on Camino Del Norte, then make a left turn (north), on Paseo Lucido (toward RB high school), and make a left on Avenida Venusto. Go past the stop sign, and make a left on Avenida Rorras, and then a right on Avenida Sivrita. We are about 8 homes up on the right side.
Mastermind Group
One of the problems encountered by owners of small businesses is the lack of ideas that comes with lacking a board of directors. A solution to the is to get business friends together in a "Mastermind Group". This group meets to share ideas about business management and these friends can act as a sounding board for ideas. Individually, we may lack knowledge, but collectively we have a great deal of experience that others in the group need. Contact Paul Gorman if you are interested in joining this group. They have meetings scheduled on April 20 and April 27.
Demotion Dinner
Save the date. June 17 is the date for President Alison's Demotion Dinner. This is an event that is not to be missed. Come and share in the fun when we celebrate Alison's year as president of RB Sunrise Rotary. This is a great time to get to know the other members in the club and get to also know their spouses.
