Cheering for Rotary assignment includes selling opportunity drawing tickets.

One of the “perks” of being a Rotarian is the ability to attend meetings of other clubs when travelling. Mary Jane and I recently spent a week in northern Idaho visiting her brother and family. Prior to departing I had “scouted” two Rotary clubs in the area: Sandpoint Rotary Club and the Newport Priest River Rotary Club. I had chosen the Sandpoint club because we were going to self-tour in that area and it would have been very convenient. However, when driving around in the area several days before that club’s meeting we drove past the Rotary Park site in Oldtown, ID which is where the Newport Priest River club meets. Rotary signs were prominent and there was a Rotary trailer parked nearby. So, I chose this club to visit.
When I arrived at their breakfast meeting and introduced myself. I was told that Steve Brown, past TRF trustee and member of the La Jolla Golden Triangle club was an Honorary member! Further, PDG Wayne Cusick (Blythe) attends their meetings when he stays in the area! This is a small club (@15 members) charted in 1998 but has a good Facebook presence and is very active in the local community. I gave a “Rotary Moment” to the club about our club and also discussed my visit to India for an NID. We also traded club banners.
One thing the club does is, in addition to presenting their program speaker with a Rotary travel mug, they give he/she a copy of the Rotarian magazine (how cool is that!!!)
So, you never know what a club visit will bring. Visiting other clubs while travelling is fun, educational and sometimes has surprises! The next time you are “out of town” plan a club visit…it’s another way of expanding your Rotary horizon!
