On Saturday morning, Sep 29, 2018 five members of RB Sunrise Rotary Club traveled to Grossmont College to attend the Foundation Seminar. Members attending were Sandi Mendenhall, Brian Gansert, Kim Muslusky, Jeanne MacLaren and Jim Dunny.
This meeting highlighted the achievements of our DIstrict 5340's financial support for the Rotary Foundation and the diversity of projects that the clubs in our district have done throught District Designated Fund grants and Rotary Foundation Global Grants. Our district is active throughout the world and also here in San Diego. We also heard from a Peace Scholar about how she is helping promote peace because of Rotary.
There is not enough space here to condense 3 hours worth of presentations by over a dozen clubs and other speakers. Suffice it to say that this seminar was an eye opener about the impact that Rotary has in the world through the Rotary Foundation. If Rotary was active only in Polio Eradication, that would be remarkable. From a world in 1985 that experienced 350,000 cases of polio to today when there are only about 20 cases in the world, Rotary has been part of a remarkable effort to eliminate the wild polio virus. Part of that effort is the effort to provide safe water and proper sanitation to eliminate the sources of transmission of this dread disease.
Rotarians are special people because they see a need and act to address that need by fundraising and finding ways to change lives across the world. Rotarians are People of Action.
