The program for Tuesday March 3, 2015 is Peter Meisen. Peter is an honorary member of RB Sunrise Rotary Club. Peter is the founder of GENI (Global Energy Network Institute) This non-profit organization exists to convince governments to work toward the goal of interconnection of electric transmission grids so that all people on earth can benefit from having access to reliable electic energy. Peter will speak about renewable energy.

The District Training Assembly (DTA) offers training on a variety of subjects to incoming club officers, directors and committee chairs to help them become more effective club leaders. All club members -- especially Red Badgers -- are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Come learn about Rotary programs, tips on club program management, and best practices from other Rotarians. DTA is also a great opportunity to meet and connect with other Rotarians. Classes fill up quickly, so don't miss out, and register today!

Global Grants Management Seminar March 21, 2015 12:10 pm to 1:30 pm
This seminar will immediately follow the DTA. Since there is no time for lunch light snacks will be available. At least 2 members of each club in the district must attend this seminar in order to be eligible to participate in Global Grants.

On Tuesday, March 24, 2105 we will meet to assemble donated school supplies for Abraxas High School Purple Group. We will need to arrive by 6:45 am in order to begin and complete the assembly before our regular meeting. After the meeting the supplies will be delivered to Abraxas High School.
Please donate whatever supplies you can from the list below, and bring to the club by Tuesday March 17th. Nasrin Barbee will then do an inventory and obtain the missing items from other sources.

30th Anniversary of PolioPlus Campaign
During a speech to Rotary leaders in February 1985, then Rotary President Dr. Carlos Canseco announced what he considered “the biggest news in Rotary” — the commitment to help control polio worldwide.
Since that day, Rotary’s dedication to the global eradication of polio has remained constant. 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of PolioPlus and three decades of progress and challenges the program has faced. Read More about the origins of the PolioPlus campaign.
Rotary's 110th Anniversary
Two weeks ago marked 110 years since Paul P. Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram E. Shorey gathered in Loehr’s office in Room 711 of the Unity Building in downtown Chicago for what would become known as the first Rotary club meeting. Last fall a few of us traveled to Palm Desert for the District Conference. I will admit that I was not that enthusiastic about going. However, I decided to go. Because I have a job at the district as the NewsBits editor, I could network with Rotarians from other clubs in the district in order to get more story submissions.
I was pleasantly surprised because this was not a boring meeting. On Saturday morning, multiple service project ideas were introduced. Two that stood out were:
1. Using a peanut butter based food to help starving children recover and thrive.
2. A project to give a "helper" prosthetic hand device to persons who have enough residual lower arm length so that they can do such tasks as: feed themselves, write or paint, use tools.
One couple in our district took the helper hand project training in the afternoon and also acquired a hand. They did this because they plan to go on a year long travel with their 2 daughters around the world and the helper hand was a project that they could accomplish during that time.
Recently, this family was able to "preview" this project right here in San Diego. One Rotary family found something at District Conference that they have since used to change someone's life. Read this heartwarming story on the district website at the link below.
