Last Week's Program

At our regular meeting on June 23, Sarah Adams spoke to us about Voices For Children.  Voices For Children is a nonprofit organization that provides training and support for volunteers who are become case workers for children who are placed into the foster care programs of the county.  The case workers gather the informaiion that helps the judges make better decisions about the best interest of these children.  The case workers also act as dedicated and interested adults who can assist the foster children to be motivated to stay in school and work toward making a better life for themselves.

At the meeting, we also learned that new member Lee Haney and his wife have been case workers for Voices For Children for a number of years in the past. Sarah indicated that they are always looking for volunteers and for funding for their organization.  Sarah indicated that they don't have enough volunteers to handle all of the cases that they could possibly help.  She also stated that her office is also working to restart the Voices for Children progarm in San Bernadino County where the program did not survive an earlier attempt to provide case workers for foster children.
