Rotational Breakfasts on Tuesday, Oct 20, 2015
There is no club meeting on Tuesday, Oct 13, 2015 because our meeting venue, the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo is closed again this week for completion of annual mainenance. Instead of our regular meetin, we will have rotational meetings at various member's place of business. More detail will be sent in a future email.
Our Regular Meetings at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo will resume on Tuesday, October 27, 2015.

The assignment for the Who Am I includes providing the positive thought at the beginning of the meeting and introducing guests and visiting Rotarians during the meeting.
The member assigned to Rotary Minute/ Cheer for Rotary is the assigned Greeter for that day and also is tasked with selling opportunity drawing tickets.
On Saturday evening, District 5340 hosted a great party at the Mission Tower Ballroom at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. This was the Millions for HOPE Foundation GALA sponsored by Citizens Bank. Including RI President K.R. “Ravi” Ravindran, our zone director, Brad Howard, and Rotarians, spouses and guests, about 550 attended this celebration. RB Sunrise Rotary was represented by Trudy Armstrong, Nasrin and Ralph Barbee, Craig and Bridgett Brown, Jim and Irene Dunny, Alison and Mark Farrin, Bret Geernaert, Inan Linton, Jeanne MacLaren and Kim Muslusky.

The evening began with a reception in the Mission Tower Plaza. Around 7 pm, everyone was seated in the Mission Tower Ballroom. The purpose of this gathering was to learn about the challenge our district recievied 2 years ago to raise funds through planned giving and estate giving through estate gifts. The goal over time became $15 million dollars! We learned that by June 30 of this year our district had already raised $10 million.
During the evening, RI President Ravindran presented the Arch Klumpf award to Dr. Janice and Matt Kurth. This award is recognition for their donation from their estate plan in the amount of at least $250,000!

During his remarks, RI President Ravindran said that he normally has to encourage people to give to the foundation. He said that because District 5340 already gives so much, he couldn't make his usual remarks. Instead he brought us up to date about how the Rotary Foundation changes lives. He also told us about the voice that Rotary has at the level of the heads of governments in developing countries. Because of the success of Rotary's polio eradication efforts, when the President of Rotary International attends meetings of government leaders, he had a chance to advocate directly for continued help from these governments in pressuring the remaining countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan, to work with Rotary and local volunteers to complete the task of eradicating polio. He reminded them that failure to do this would within a decade or two have a major impact on their nations if the polio eradication was not completed. He also reminded us that we could be affected because of the way travel between countries allows for the spread of diseases beyond borders.

RB Sunrise Rotary will be funding a house building project on November 7. Now is the time to get prepared for this club project. This event will start in the early morning. Participants (club members and familiy members) will be spending the entire day in Tijuana. Club members are reminded that a passport is necessary to re-enter the United States at the border crossing. In past house build projects, participants have remarked about how rewarding this experience was for them.
