Country Club of Rancho Bernardo upgrades video
Last Tuesday, our speaker didn't have a connecting cord to connect to our video projector. Jon Shea was able to get the new flat screen TV screen that was recently acquired by CCRB. This mobile 55 inch mobile flat screen also has its own sound bar. Our speaker was really impressed with the flat screen she was able to use. She said that this was the best audio/visual setup she has experienced anywhere.
Club management was already interested in acquiring this flat screen, but because of limited funds, they were not going to purchase this setup for a month or two. Because our club had already budgeted money to buy a better, more powerful projector, we offered to instead help the club with the purchase of the flat screen. In return for our assistance, we will enjoy priority access in the future at all of our meetings and events.
The Country Club of Rancho Bernardo has always been a great place for our meetings. The one sticking point was the poor A/V capability because of the brightness of the room. Now we are able to enjoy a first rate A/V capability in a great venue. By helping the country club, we have demonstrated how much we appreciate the club. Thank Jon Shea for his input to the club that was a factor in this great improvement.
Make ups for missed meetings.
If you miss a meeting, there are several ways to do a make up. (Remember that you can do a make up within a period that extends from 2 weeks before the missied meeting to 2 weeks after the meeting.)
Here are the ways you can make up a meeting. (For maintaing your membership, you agreed when you joined the club to attend at least 50 percent of all meetings.)
1. Visit another Rotary Club nearby. (Go to www.rotary5340.org to find a club and a location. Since the district website is also a ClubRunner website, you can use the same password as you use to log onto our club website.)
2. Make up a meeting by attending a viritual meeting at an e-club. After viewing video presentations you can follow the instructions to have the makeup credit sent to me (jdunny1@me.com) and a copy also for your records.
3. Attend a board of director's meeting. (The next board of directors meeting is at Pres. Karen's home at 6 pm on February 19.
4. Attend a district event - The next district event is a district council meeting on Feb 17 at the La Jolla Marriott at 5:30pm. This is a great way to meet Rotarians from other clubs and find out what happens in their club.
5. If there is a club social function, you also will get makeup credit if you attend.
Rotary is an organization that was begun as a way to have friend meet on a regular basis. What evolved was the idea of service in community projects that friends working together could concieve and achieve. Today Rotary changes lives because Rotarians around the world are committed to service.

The Invisible Threat
The resurgence of measles cases and the outbreak of Ebola cases last fall demonstrate the vulnerability that occurs because of the ease of travel to and from locales that have diseases that we don't normally encounter here in the U.S. Because immunizations have been so successful, we have an entire generation of people today that have no memory of the fear that once gripped our country surrounding the outbreak of measles and polio. What is not generally known is that there are still a large number of seniors who are survivors of polio and have ongoing health challenges.
On the home page of our district website, there is a story about the video "Invisible Threat" This video is a balanced overview of the current controversies surrounding vaccinations. This video has been recognized by numerous health organizations as a valuable tool for educating people about vaccinations. The video was produced by students at Carlsbad High School with funding by a number of Rotary Club from our district. Here is a link to that story. In light of the misinformation and distrust that so many are voicing about this subject, you should be informed so that you know the facts and are not swayed by anecdotal and discredited information that is still being published.
