Some folks don’t realize how much Rotary clubs enjoy working together.

Take this week’s breakfast, for example, when we welcomed Krishna Arora and Allan Galgut, representatives of the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary. They joined us to help support Oasis Haven, a favorite cause of the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club and now a recipient of $1,000 from the LJGT club.

Oasis Haven, as you may know, is a South African non-profit that cares for abandoned and HIV positive children. RB Sunriser Laura Mello, who with her sister Beth runs the organization, reported that between the two Rotary clubs, the Caster Family Trust, and Rotary International’s matching grant funding program, Oasis Haven was recently awarded over $14,000 to help support annual education and living expenses for 12 of their kids. They’ve also raised in excess of $201,000 from the US over the past 9 years. “Much of that was from Rotarians, and we never could have made so much positive change in so many lives without the people in this room,” she said.

“Since 2009, 43 children have found a home at Oasis Haven,” Laura told us, adding “26 of these kids have either been adopted or reunited with long-lost family members.
